Avonite Surfaces has announced the launch of its "Zero Hero Waste Reduction Competition," designed to encourage commercial fabricators and millwork houses to take a proactive role in reducing construction waste by utilizing the Avonite Surfaces – Foundations Acrylic Solid Surface Custom Size Sheet Program. The program provides custom-sized acrylic solid surface sheets for commercial projects, potentially saving thousands of dollars on labor and material while reducing waste to a minimum.
The competition will run from May 1, 2008, through Oct. 31, 2008. Qualified fabricators who place a custom-sized order of Avonite – Foundations acrylic solid surface sheets during this time will be eligible to compete for the grand prize of $10,000. In addition to winning this $10,000 grand prize, the fabricator chosen as the "Zero Hero" winner will also be featured in the Surface Fabrication magazine as well as other promotional events. The first 10 fabricators who place their custom-sized orders will also receive a new 8G iPod Touch just for entering the competition.
The qualified fabricator that prevents the most solid surface waste using the Avonite Custom Size Sheet Program will be declared the winner. The winning waste reduction will be calculated by the pounds of waste materials that could be prevented from going to landfill as compared to using standard-sized sheets for the same project. Standard sheet sizes for the industry are 30- by 98- by ¼-in. and 30- by 144- by ½-in
Determining the amount of waste prevention per entry will be judged on reasonable scrap waste factors as detailed below:
For orders of custom-sized sheets that are smaller than standard-sized sheets, the square foot difference between the standard-sized sheet and the smaller custom-sized sheet is calculated and multiplied by 2.2 pounds per sq. ft. for ¼-in. thickness and 4.4 pounds per sq. ft. for ½-in. thickness.
For orders of custom-sized sheets that are larger than standard-sized sizes, an allowance per seam prevented is used to calculate the total waste prevention. Each seam prevented for ¼-in. thickness is equivalent to 25 pounds and each seam prevented for ½-in. thickness is equivalent to 50 pounds of waste prevention.
To enter, fabricators must complete the supplied entry form when placing a custom-sized order for Avonite – Foundations acrylic solid surface sheets. The information from the entry form will allow the company to help calculate the total waste prevention for the project as compared to using standard-sized sheets. You may get the entry form along with more details for the competition at www.avonitesurfaces.com/zerohero.
Entries are limited to single custom-sized orders for a particular project. Custom-sized orders from fabricator-customers with prearranged quantity price discounts will not qualify. Custom-sized orders must be purchased directly from Aristech Acrylics or from an authorized distributor of Avonite Surfaces. Custom-sized orders must be paid in full, within the agreed payment terms, in order to qualify for the competition. More information about the custom sheet size program is available at www.avonitesurfaces.com/customsheet or by contacting the company.
