Try thinking of the people you work with as a bank account. Each day you have the option of making deposits or withdrawals. Every time you complain, unfairly criticize, embarrass, or belittle your employees, you make withdrawals from the account. Eventually, you end up overdrawn. Conversely, when you commend, encourage, communicate, listen, discipline fairly and criticize constructively, you make deposits into the account. That kind of attitude fosters a work environment where everyone feels secure, appreciated and valuable. Isn’t that the kind of place where we all would like to work?
