Awards

The Solid Surface International Expo announced at the show that it would also be backing an award contest called the Cygnus Achievement in Design Contest (see Figure 3).

"Cygnus Expositions wanted to include an opportunity for SSIE participants to boast their talents and receive recognition for their artistry and craftsmanship in a distinguished competition held in conjunction with the show," said Tom Pellet, group vice president. "We want this to be an annual event that spotlights the best the industry has to offer."ISSFA conducted its annual award ceremony, handing out five awards:

The entries will be judged by a panel of experts in four categories: freestyle/art, countertop, furniture and "outside the box." Each entry must be comprised of at least 40 percent solid surface. One winner will be selected from each category and a "Best of Show" winner will be chosen from among the four category winners.

The ISSFA Associate of the Year Award went to Paul Hanson and Nick Nichols of E-Template for continual improvement of product, excellence in customer service and support by working with manufacturers' situations and requirements.

The ISSFA Innovator Award went to Joel Miller, of Sterling-Miller Designs for the amazing fabrication capabilities he regularly performs from his two-man shop.

The ISSFA Envision Award went to Hudson Solid Surfaces for its Mystera product which is the first nondirectional veined solid surface and "defines a new market space between natural stone and other solid surface products."
