Automatic Collection Systems Gate
K&B Duct's AutoAir cut-off gate is suitable for energy and equipment-cost savings for shops with a central collection system for dust, fumes or mists serving intermittently operated machines. The gate automatically opens needed duct branches when a machine is turned on, while closing off inactive branches and machines. This fully utilizes the pick-up power of a collection system by applying as much vacuum as possible, only when and where needed, allowing a smaller fan to handle a system with many branches. The gates allow sizing of the collector system based on the true usage, rather than the total requirement reducing the size and cost of the system. Gates 3 to 9 in. in diameter use one air cylinder while 10 in. and gates larger use two. The switching solenoid for the compressed air can be activated by 12-, 24- or 120-volt AC/DC.

Dust Collection
The Dust Cobra from Oneida Air Systems is a hybrid vacuum/dust collector with 260 maximum CFM and a hi-efficiency cyclonic separation of 99.9 percent before the filter. The machine has a 2.5-in. diameter inlet with 110-volts and is suitably portable at 52 lbs. Dust goes into a 12-gallon steel barrel that can be removed and dumped with no filter bags. Applicable for general portable wood working tools with dust ports 2.5-in. or smaller; general shop vacuuming and cleanup; and high-pressure applications such as panel saws, small routers, dremel tools, carving tools, scroll saws, band saws, mini lathes and miter saws.

Material Handling

For the Omni Cubed Pro-Cart AT1, available through GranQuartz, the Folding Kit upgrade provides additional versatility for storage and carrying of the unloaded cart. The kit enables the cart to be folded down to 9 in. for storage down the center of A-frames or along the side of countertops in a truck. Installers are able to carry the lightweight cart in the folded position (weighing 48 lbs. with the folding kit added). The folding kit features large, smooth-turning handles which are accessed from underneath the main support rail.

Engraving System
Amana Tool has introduced its In-Groove CNC insert engraving system featuring one tool body with multiple carbide insert engraving tips for a variety of applications. Users can produce crisp, clean cuts with unique knife shapes that enable efficient chip removal that allows for suituable cutting performance and quick operation. The system can be used for sign making, lettering and engraving applications in laminated materials, veneers, MDF, plastics, wood, aluminum and solid surface.

Compound Miter Saw
Festool has released the KAPEX 10-in. Sliding Dual Compound Miter Saw. The tool reportedly has the accuracy and precision of a table saw, the cutting capacity of a large miter saw and the ease and portability of a hand-held saw. With its forward rail design, the saw requires zero rear clearance to operate and can cut nested crown molding larger than 6 ½ in. or standing base molding up to 4 3/4in. The large base has rubber feet to prevent slipping and the wide rails provide stability for precision cutting. Weighing less than 50 lbs., the saw is compact and can be easily transported to the jobsite.

Automatic Grinding Machine
The uniMAX 750 automatic grinding machine from Colonial Saw sharpens carbide-tipped circular saw blades. It is fully enclosed for cleanliness and safety, and its rigid machine base provides stability. The machine also has standard programs to accommodate common tooth types on saw blades from 100 to 750 mm in diameter and features a hydraulic clamping system that holds the blade during grinding. A large window provides a clear view of the grinding wheel, and an internal diagnostic program identifies faults. The automatic swivel-mounted grinding head can be programmed by the operator to grind bevels of up to 45 degrees for saws with alternating teeth or triple-chip teeth, for example. Due to the machine's flow control valves, grinding head speed and indexing are steplessly adjustable in both directions. Options include a hollow-face grinding attachment and an upgrade to accommodate blades as large as 800 mm in diameter.

The Anver VP-Series Vacuum Lifter featuring the Easy Tilt quad-link system offers a mechanical advantage that will retain its vertical or horizontal position if properly centered on the load. Suitable for stone, glass and plate handling, it has a side handlebar which can be mounted to the left or right and lets users control pick-up with one hand and tilt with the other.
