I'm considering adding EOS to my ss product line. Good or bad idea? Any responses from shops that have been selling it for awhile would be appreciated. I don't do laminate and staron is the most economicle product I offer. Feel free to email me if you want to keep your responses private. darinhinton@bresnan.net

Darrin:

I met a guy at the show who just raves about adding EOS to his line. Sorry, I can't remember his name but he was from Arkansas or Alabama and had the accent and a bald head. I'm sure Gordon Shell from EOS knows him.

EOS will save time in fabrication, but you'd better be in the stone business or plan on buying a new forklift to handle the extra weight.

The guys from EOS are well known and respected in the industry.

Hope that helps.

Joe

The advantage to EOS is the 3CM product which does not require a build up. To some customers the 3cm looks "skinny". Other companies also offer a 3CM product so you may want to check that out. If you eliminate the 3Cm from the mix, EOS is a typical polyester product. If your use to working with Acrylic there will be some minor differences, major if you want to thermoform. From all the posts I have read EOS is as good of a product as any, in fact, most of the SS today are good products.
Think why you want to add an additional line, is it to save fabrication time, or to offer a different "look". This should be what guides you. Many of the companies offer similar colors, does it make sense to offer 15 shades of the same brown? If you offer fewer products there is more of a chance of using scrap from one job on another job, and scrap is $$$.
Good Luck with your decisions !

Thanks for the input. I do 3cm granite and e-stone also, so I'm sure the 3cm thickness is lighter than what I'm used to dealing with. My biggest concern with it is the hardness (or lack thereof). I don't want to be getting service calls all the time for scratches, etc. I know a guy who used to sell a polyester product years ago, and he would give all of his customers a cheap orbital sander and teach them how to sand out scratches. If a product is that soft its not worth selling. I'm not saying thats the case with EOS, but I just don't know.

Darrin,
This is not a fair opinion since I work for EOS. I would recommend that you get a practice piece and play around with it to see if it fits your business. As Joe said, it is heavier than 1/2" but if your in the stone business the weight is going to be a pleasure to work with. Wags stated that it is just another polyester which is false, EOS is an acrylic based product with a poly added for particulate suspension etc. EOS will save you a ton of labor, about 90% of your ss adhesive costs and 100% of your labor costs. The EOS product has come a long ways since its orginal introduction, I would ask you to give it a try before you make any decisions. The gentleman that Joe spoke of from the show is Charlie Fanning of Treos, Alabama. Charlie has actually built his business doing EOS as his flagship SS, actually, Charlie is trying to make his business 100% EOS (hence the name Treos).
Look Charlie up, he loves to talk about his experiences.
also feel free to call me or your local rep, Tom Morrison to get a practice piece sent out.

Hi SS monster,

Some time ago I heard that Eos would have distribution on the West Coast, but I never did hear the name of the company. Could you clue me in on who the new distributor is?

Thanks,

Len

Darrin, I can only speak from a distributors stand point. We get a lot of requests for tooling for EOS. It started as a trickle and has gone up from there. Tells me EOS is selling a lot of product.
You stated your used to moving around 3cm stone, so moving EOS around will be no problem. SS fabricators that don't do stone definately need to get used to the weight.
Good luck with it.

Darrin,

I have worked extensively with both acrylics , polyesthers and the Hybrids. Included in that mix are the 3cm S.S. goods. EOS is not the only such product out there though probably the most well known. It presently enjoys the best distribution of this genre in the US market. Most of these are Hybrids or polys comming into the US from China. Beside the substantial weight issue it can definetly save you farication time. Handling is an issue. There is a great product in 3cm/2cm vanity form comming out of Holly Hill, Fl. All pre-fab'd and ready to go. If anyone is interested let me know and I will get you the particualrs.

EOS opened our own warehouse in California around september of last year. We sell direct to the fabricator from there. You can see a map of all our warehouses on the website.
