View Full Version : Samsung Staron...does the sheet have tension built-in?

It seems like each time we cut a long splash on the CNC using Staron, the splash bows significantly, like 1/4" to 3/8" over 8'. In rare cases, the bow is up to 1/2".
Has anyone else been experiencing this with certain materials?
I've seen this with most materials to some degree, but it's most pronounced with Staron and more common. I don't know the cause, but it's a pain to work with.

Our splashes do the same when cutting them out on the CNC.
We add 1/16" on all of our splashes and then cut that off on a table saw when we knife them with a 1 degree bevel on the side of the bow. That helps a little bit.

Indy,
Does it seem to happen with all materials equally? We don't seem to get the same result with Avonite's foundations product.

Len:
When you say you get a bow, it it along the freshly cut edge or does that edge stay straight and the splash bows?

Joe,
The long cut edge closest to the middle of the sheet will bow. The bow will touch the sheet in the center, and each end will be bowed up.

We have had this problem in the past but that was a long time ago. Is this a recent problem? What colors are you having the problem?

Yep, just recently, and the color is white.

All:
I did a large commercial sill job several years ago. I had two pallets of Corian strips cut at the factory and every one was hooked.
Fortunately my distributor saw the additional work scribing each sill would require and compensated me accordingly.

We used to cut stips for Rugby when they sold them and some of the material had a slight bend after cutting to 5" width, but it was usually jus the outside pieces. The inside strips seemed to be real straight.
Like I said though it was about a year ago.

We see this alot with Staron, it happens with many of the colors. The sheets seem to have stress built in . It takes some extra time to deal with this. I also see some thickness variations within sheets, I'm not sure if the problems are related.
