Anyone do laminate tops with a solid surface edge, and if so, what are you using for adhering the solid surface edge to the top?

I've done a couple of these (not by choice) when I worked for another shop. One was a full bullnose, 1 1/2" thick by 3" wide face mounted, we used silicone. It worked, but what a pain. Looked like garbage, soft seams at the corners. For 1 1/2" x 1/2" we used C.A. with an activator. A bead of C.A. on the edge, spray activator on the partical board and stick, laminate over the top, trim and profile.

I'm glad I'm the boss now so I can turn this stuff down. There's probably some money in it if you have a laminate shop, but I'm not really set up for it.

Thanks Todd. I agree with you. It's really satisfying when you know from experience what kind of work you do well, and can make money at, and you have the freedom to decline work outside those parameters. It's especially nice when you know another fabricator who likes those types of jobs and you can refer them. I do that pretty regularly.

Hey Len ,We do this application quite a bit. The one hitch is we only will accommodate if we can apply the Solid Surface edge first. It looks better as well. We use Wilson Art. #WA8215 A134 Clear. We feel its a money Maker. If you charge properly.

Jon,

Then do you run the laminate over the top of the ss edge, or do you butt the laminate to the back of the ss edge?

Hey Len,

Over the top of the edge. It makes a nice seal + look

we put the edge on 1st then the p-lam over top. looks good, no call backs on gaps due to material movement. we do hard seam corners, haven't had a problem yet with it cracking.

I'll sell anything to make $$,

I have used biscuits and yellow glue without a problem.
