I need your input....

I'm looking for one of the large, 4 headed monsters for sanding tops for our new shop. I know of the Gem sander, the pinske sander, and the Surcare.

What is your experience, and was it worth the price tag?

Len.

I would recommend the big Sur-Care. IT IS Big but, It does a great job.
It took me a while to get over the sticker shock but, after owning it for a year it is worth every penny. The weight of the machine does the work all you do is direct it. Two hands to start and stop , one hand to run.

call me if you want to talk farther on it.

Len,

I have the big Sure-Car and I really like it. It is expensive at $2500. They make a smaller madel that I think would be better but I have never tried it. The vacuum is great and the paper is the same as you would use on other sanders. Make sure you have a sandpaper without holes, otherwise the finish will suffer quiet a bit.

If you want to try mine you are more than welcome to stop by and give it a try.

I have used the big Sure Care and the Penski Quad master and The Gem Jeri sander. I really liked the Sure care for the time that it saved and the quality of the finish. Then I got the Quad master. Again I liked the time that it saved (same as Sure Care), and the quality of the finish. The quad master was a bit less expensive than the Sure Care. I recently tried the Jeri sander and sent the entire package back. I found no time savings and it was difficult to attain a consistant finish.

Len,
we have a sur-care. and a Jeri Sander. The sur-care is great for removing the track marks from the sheets we need to send through the wide belt. But hands down, the Jeri Sander is better for finishing tops (at 1/2 the cost and weight).

We have started using the Jeri Sander with the cut shroud (great for coved back splashes) about 2 mos. ago and I am contemplating adding another.

Jeri Horn has been great to work with and the SIA sand paper is cost effective. The entire system has reduced our finishing cost and given our tops a superior finish.

If you need more info, drop me a line.

We've had problems with the hook and loop wearing out quickly on our Fein sanders, and I'm wondering what the best attachment system is for these larger sanders. Would stick-it pads be best, hook & loop, etc?

What are you Big Sander Guys using that's working for you?

i used multiple sanding pads , change pads rather than abrasive film. This may be where the Pinske is at it's best.

John,

Hook & loop, or stick it?

Len,

Buy hook and loop. I know most will disagree, but also try using the 5" pad on edges and cove. It is mush cheaper than the 6" disc and a little easier to operate. We then move to the big sanders for the deck.

Just an idea,

Andy

Len,
We use hook & loop. we can sand a few small jobs with the same paper. with the dust we work in psa seems to be less cost effective.

Thanks everyone for your input on the maxi-sanders. Your experiences helped me figure out which one I think might work best for our use. Bought the Pinske Quad Master, and the folks at Pinske gave us a discount since we'd been at one of Tom's Travelling Training seminars!

Looking forward to getting it, will post a review once it's in use.

Len, that's terrific. Perhaps you would post the determining factors, in order of importance, before the formal review.

Hi All,

Follow up on the sander....we got the Pinske Quad sander, and our shop guys are raving fanatics about it. We have also cut our sanding time down significantly. It has a large price tag for a sander, but unlike some of the other ones I've "invested" in, this one pays big and immediate results.

Thanks everyone for your input.
