Hi Guys!!

We have experienced 12mm polyester based solid surface materials long time ago and we had expansion & contraction issues in particular around gas cook tops together with discolouration when exposed to direct sunlight.

We are not convinced of 30mm polyester have no issues of internal corner cracking around the cook top areas.

Could anyone give us their own feedback on 30mm polyesters???

Best Regards,
Rex

I've not heard of these problems with 1/2-in (12mm) polyester-based solid surface. How long ago did you experience these issues?

As for the 3cm stuff (30mm), I'm not sure anyone is offering a straight polyester-based product. I believe the main ones on the market are either acrylic-based or acrylic/polyester blends.

I will look into this and see if I can find some info on these problems. Hopefully others have had some experience they can share. I know Dani has a lot of experience with the polyester-based products....

Hi Rexaroo,

Have you had any issues with cutting splashes and having them warp, twist or bow or cutting sheets and having them do the same?

Ive seen this in the past, and if so, it could directly effect cooktop performance.

Hi Kevin,

to correct your post, most 3 CM offerrrings are basicly poly blends, they do throw in a minimal percentage of MMA, to boost properties. However I heard more than one CHinese company claim they market a 3 CM acrylic. Im interested in this, as most US producers dont even like to offer anything above 3/4 inch due to problems.

thanks Kevin & Lenny..

I was talking about polyester blended types.

I also had issues when thermoforming the substrate..

Anyway thanks again.

Rexaroo,
I am the midwest manager for EOS 3cm solid surfaces, please feel free to call me direct @ 616-293-6170 if I don't answer your question here.
As far as cooktop failures in 3cm EOS, to date we have zero. Eos does not require high strength corner blocks or bump-outs to prevent cracking we just ask that you sand the cut-out smooth, use minimum radius corners, and apply the heat tape.
Regardless of what has been said on this board, EOS is an acrylic based Solid Surface with a poly blended in for depth and cost savings. EOS has gone to great lengths to make sure that we do not have the issues that Poly products have had in the past. I have just completed a very large Casino buffet that failed in 1/2" 100% acrylic, the designer and contractor did extensive testing on the EOS to assure that we would not fail like the 1/2" did.
Just the sheer thickness of the material gives you increased strength, heat resistance and labor savings. Check out the web site @ www.eos-surfaces.com
